Pearl Jam has vowed to donate money from tickets and merchandise sold at their recent string of Canadian concerts to the victims of last week’s devastating Fort McMurray wildfires.

Lead singer Eddie Vedder mentioned Fort McMurray twice during the band’s sold-out Toronto concert Tuesday night at the Air Canada Centre.

The first came when discussing a fire alarm (which proved to be false) at their downtown hotel before the show and how he couldn’t fathom what those in Fort McMurray had to go through — fleeing immediately with barely nothing.

“We’re thinking of you,” he said. The band then played Evacuation.

A short while later, Vedder said Pearl Jam would be giving money to various Alberta charities — including local food banks, the Red Cross and Salvation Army — which are helping support those who have lost their homes, jobs and other possessions.

“I could use the healing restorative power of music and certain songs,” he added, then played a powerful rendition of John Lennon’s Imagine.
