Let’s start off by saying, we’ve had some amazing Super Bowl halftime shows over the years. Most recently this past year when Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar and Mary J Blige performed in L.A. But since we’re in the business of playing bands like AC/DC, Bon Jovi, KISS, Foo Fighters, RUSH and more, so we have ask … when will we get to see a rock band booked to play the halftime show again?

It was just announced over the weekend that Apple Music is taking over the Super Bowl halftime show sponsorship from Pepsi after a 10 year run by the blue crew, so we started looking at the Apple catalogue to see if maybe, just maybe, a rock band could play the show.

Since 2010, only ONE “ROCK” BAND has been booked to play the greatest stage of them all when Coldplay performed in 2016. When we looked up the Apple Music catalogue, we noticed their exclusives are all pop/contemporary/hip-hop so that didn’t inspire much confidence, then yesterday Rihanna was announced as the halftime show for February 2023.

We figured after the year Metallica had, maybe this could be their year, not by themselves, maybe even as a co-headliner and perform Master Of Puppets on the big stage.

In the early 2000s, it seemed like Rock and Football we’re going to be as synonymous as peanut butter and jam …

2001 – Aerosmith (w. N*SYNC)
2002 – U2
2003 – No Doubt (w. Shania Twain)
2005 – Paul McCartney
2006 – The Rolling Stones

2007 – Prince (in the rain, remember… MAGIC)
2008 – Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers

2009 – Bruce Springsteen & The E Street Band
2010 – The Who

But everything changed in 2011 when the Black Eyed Peas took the stage and other than the Red Hot Chili Peppers making a surprise appearance in 2013 with Bruno Mars (that was an amazing show), only Coldplay have represented guitars and drums in the last 12 years. But we guess that’s better than the old “theme” shows they uses to have in the 90s like “Celebration of Soul, Salsa and Swing”, “Indiana Jones & The Temple Of The Forbidden Eye” and “Small World”
