On June 4, Cyndi Lauper dug her hands and shoes into the cement outside the TCL Chinese Theatre in Hollywood, cementing her legacy. The 1980s pop icon has sold over 50 million singles and won Grammy, Tony, and Emmy honours. “I’m honoured,” she said to the crowd. “All those times bowing in front of my shower curtain when I was nine. And here I am. Thank you.” Esteemed friend Cher introduced Lauper to the ceremony, praising her voice.

“I’m a pretty good singer,” Cher said. “Cyndi is a great singer.” Lauper has been an advocate for women’s rights and other disadvantaged groups. “She’s always used her platform to fight for the underdog, especially women, people living with HIV/AIDS, and the entire LGBTQ + community,” added Bebe Rexha. The accolade came a day after Lauper announced a farewell tour.
