Black Sabbath fans hoping for one last performance with all original members were disappointed by recent news from bassist and co-founder Geezer Butler. In a recent interview with BraveWords, Butler clarified that a reunion with Ozzy Osbourne, Tony Iommi, and Bill Ward is unlikely. Despite previous comments in May that hinted at a potential final show, Butler now says, “It’s just not going to happen.”

“Ozzy has been texting me about doing one final show with Bill, and that’s it,” Butler shared. “But I always said that the original Black Sabbath would never get back together. You say these things hoping if a miracle happens, that would be great to do it… It’s up to everyone’s health, but I can’t see it happening. I’d love it to happen, even if it was one final song with the original four of us, with Bill on the drums.”

However, Butler did add a glimmer of hope for fans, stating that he and Ozzy have “agreed” to play one last show. “I’m definitely up for it, to finish the whole thing off. Me and Ozzy have agreed, but I’m not sure about anybody else.”

Guitarist Tony Iommi, now 76, recently expressed similar mixed feelings about a potential reunion. “That’d be a nice thing to actually do, but whether it happens will be another thing,” Iommi said. “I have to look at it realistically at my age. I can’t go out and do a two-year tour like we were doing before. And to put something together like the original Sabbath or this or that or the other, you’ve gotta do it a long time because of the cost of everything. But we’ll see. I mean, who knows?”

Ozzy Osbourne, now 75 and recovering from a series of health issues, expressed in early May that he feels there is still “unfinished” business for Black Sabbath. “It wasn’t Black Sabbath that finished it. It’s unfinished. If they wanted to do one more gig with Bill, I would jump at the chance,” Osbourne told Billy Morrison. “Do you know what would be cool? If we went to a club or somewhere unannounced and we just got up and did it. We started up in a club.”
