Kirk Hammett, Metallica’s iconic guitarist, recently shared his desire for more touring. At 61, Hammett, who joined the band in 1983, has been a mainstay in Metallica’s lineup.

In a recent episode of The Metallica Report podcast, Hammett expressed his thoughts on the band’s current touring schedule. Reflecting on their return after a six-month break, he said,

“I’m just happy to be out here and bringing the music to the people, man, like I always am… I don’t believe we tour enough… This is what it’s all about, is playing guitar and writing, recording, going out on tour. And I don’t feel that there’s enough of it in my life right now.”

Indeed, Metallica’s touring has slowed in recent years. According to setlist.fm, they played 95 concerts in 2009 and 63 in 2010, but haven’t exceeded 50 shows annually since. This is a big change from their peak in 1992, when they played 168 shows promoting The Black Album.

Fans can only hope his wish for more tours comes true.
